The event will take place under the theme ‘Prevent plastic pollution.’
Earth Day is a global event celebrated annually on 22 April to increase awareness about the environment and demonstrate support for environmental protection.
NamPower’s first fun run was held in 2015. Last year, approximately 800 participants took place and the number of participants continues to increase every year.
This year there are two categories, the 10 kilometre (km) which starts at
06h30 and the 5km run starting at 07h00.
“NamPower through this event not only hopes to gain a higher profile in terms of environmental initiatives, but to also assist in educating the public with regards to environmental concerns facing Namibia and their contribution towards solving these problems,” a statement issued by the power utility said.
The entry fee for adults is N.dollars 50 and for children under the age of 18, N.dollars 25.
Tickets are available from Events Today’s website, the Pay Today app and Airtime City kiosks.
The proceeds for this year’s fun run will be donated to an organisation that runs environmental projects, which is yet to be identified.
A small token of appreciation will be handed out to the first 500 participants who register at the event.
