Several donations have been made to schools across the country in response to the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture’s call for more involvement in education.
On Thursday the Eastern Epukiro Farmers Union donated N. dollars 50 000 to the Good Hope Primary School in the Epukiro Constituency for renovation purposes.
The school has made headlines due to its non-functional sewage system and lack \of a roof, which was blown off during strong winds some years back.
Meanwhile, the Avani Windhoek Hotel pledged to donate various items to the Okondjatu Combined School on Friday, chairperson of the school’s fundraising committee, Kavee Rijatua told Nampa on Thursday.
The hotel has pledged to donate six stoves of which three are gas stoves, two big gas cylinders, 60 mattresses and 60 pillows.
Recently, the Hengari clan rewarded four learners from the clan for their outstanding performance during the final examinations of 2017.
Clan committee chairperson, Donald Kuhanga told this news agency the gesture is a response to the call by Minister of Education, Arts and Culture, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa for everyone to get involved in local education.
Kauzarua Karumendu from the Gobabis Gymnasium Private School received a cow which was donated by Plecka Hengari and his wife Charlotte Hengari.
Karumendu was also the best overall performer in the Omaheke Region, for which she received N.dollars 4 000 that was donated by Standard Bank.
The other categories for which the best performers in the Hengari clan were rewarded were best Grade 10 and 12 achiever from the Namibian College of Open Learning, as well as Best in Grade 10 Accounting.
Namcol’s director, Harold Murangi applauded the clan for coming on board and assisting the government in motivating learners to work harder.
“I urge other clans and groups in our society to not depend on government alone for financial support for our children,” he said.
