The Mozambican government on Tuesday approved the granting of subsidy to state employees who are in pre-trial detention, an official has said.
According to Xinua news agency, Mozambican government spokesperson Ana Comoane said the subsidy was intended to ensure the maintenance for dependents of an official or agent of the state in custody, by virtue of the principle of presumption of innocence enshrined in the Constitution of the republic.
“It is an instrument that has taken into account the principle of presumption of innocence”, she said.
Comoane was speaking at the end of the fourth regular session of the Council of Ministers in Maputo.
Under the new regulation, the families of agents or state employees under pre-trial detention are entitled to a subsidy corresponding to 60 percent of the worker’s basic salary.
The allowance should be requested by a family member designated by the state agent or employee in custody.
