The Far North Area office recently sponsored equipment, such as reflector jackets, pepper spray, and torches to the Ongwediva Neighbourhood Watch. Toivo Kalla, Area Sales and Service Manager, Far North Area Office: “This is part of our commitment towards the community we operate in. We believe that a safe environment is a catalyst for social and economic development, and we are proud to be associated with this initiative.
The Neighbourhood Watch was established in 2016 by Morgan Gille as a non-profit organization with the sole mandate of keeping Ongwediva safe for inhabitants and visitors. The group currently consists of about 25 active volunteers who assist the police with patrols and act as the eyes and ears on the ground to curb crime in the area. According to the Police station commander, Chief Inspector Elizabeth Nashandi, the crime rate has drastically declined in Ongwediva since the inception of the Ongwediva Neighbourhood Watch.
Toivo adds: “We also donated FNB branded refuse bins to the Hifikepunye Pohamba Campus of UNAM as part of our Planet, Partnership, Profit and People strategy. The bins have been placed in towns such as Opuwo, Ondangwa, Okongo, and the UNAM – Hifikepunye Campus. We encourage everyone to make use of the bins and to keep the beautiful North neat and clean.”
