Last week FNB handed over 200 cash prizes to the overall best, second and third JSC candidates in each circuit in the 14 regions. The Awards, an initiative by the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture is aimed at recognising learners across the country who achieved outstanding academic results at the grade 10 circuit levels.
At the hand-over, Hon. Katrina Hanse-Himarwa emphasised the fact that the education sector has the responsibility to spearhead the realization of Vision 2030 in Namibia. She said: “Education is the key and a major driver of social and economic development in the country. The awards are a testimony that our country will indeed produce a competent and efficient workforce to meet the demands of the modern knowledge-based economy.”
This year, the FNB Namibia Holdings Foundation Trust once again sponsored the event with an amount of N$ 144 000. Representing the bank, Floriana Kisting, Katutura Branch Manager said that FNB was strongly driven by its core values, where the dignity of work in pursuit of excellence reflected FNB’s enduring belief in hard work and the potential of every Namibian. “By means of our sponsorship FNB Namibia reaffirms our support towards the numerous government development programmes and on different projects country wide, as we strive to fulfill our vision of being “A great Namibian business, creating a better world”.
Floriana expressed her gratitude towards the parents, principals, teachers and learners and thanked the Ministry for their commitment. She added: “Every young talent confirms that our combined efforts in improving our education sector, is bearing fruit. They provide the evidence of the accomplishments of our education system to foster academic development and life-long learning capabilities in our learners.”
The sponsorship money was divided as follows:
- N$1000 for the overall best candidate in each region
- N$600 for the second best overall candidate in each region
- N$400 for the third best overall candidate in each region
