First National Bank (FNB) donated furniture worth N.dollars 144 720 to the Groot Aub Primary School on Tuesday.
The donation of about 160 desks and chairs for both teachers and learners was done through the FNB Namibia Foundation Trust.
Speaking at the hand over Chairperson of FNB Namibia Foundation Trust, Clara Bohitile said FNB recognises the importance of partnering with government to meet community needs.
“We offer this equipment as a means to help develop the future of Groot Aub, in our attempt to make sure that quality education is spread far and wide as possible and that our children have the resources they need to be cared for and properly educated,” she said.
She added that the provision of furniture is a way to restore learners’
dignity and advised the school to take care of the furniture so that they can be passed on to the next children.
Speaking at the same occasion acting Principal, Judika April, said the donation is an important step in creating a conducive environment that could result in excellent results for both the learners and teachers.
According to April, the primary school that has more than 900 learners, had to hold morning and afternoon sessions due to insufficient classrooms.
“In the past our Grade 3 and Grade 4 pupils attended afternoon classes as there were not enough classes and furniture to accommodate them in the morning,” she said.
She added that because of Pupkewitz, who built four more classes for them and FNB, who provided furniture for these classes. The Grade 4 learners (about 140) will now have morning classes.
The new classes will be officially handed over and opened on Wednesday.
The Grade 3 learners, who are about 120, will however continue with afternoon classes until the school gets buildings to accommodate them.
