Entries have opened for the 2017 Sanlam Awards for Excellence in Financial Journalism which will be presented for the 43rd consecutive year in 2018.
Entries will close on Friday, 2 March 2018, giving financial journalists ample time to submit their entries. Entry is open to South African journalists with the African Growth Story category open also to journalists working across the continent whose work is published and/or broadcast in Africa.
The categories are:
- business/companies;
- economy;
- financial markets;
- consumer financial education; and
- African growth story.
Best performers in radio, television, print and online across all five categories will be decided by the judges and announced on the awards evening as financial journalist of the year winners in their respective medium. No entry is required for these awards.
Special awards for lifetime achievement, best newcomer of the year and financial journalist of the year will also be awarded.
The judging panel will use the following criteria to evaluate entries: news value, impact, rigour in reporting, analytical value, originality, integrity, specialist knowledge and story-telling.
Peter Vundla, chairperson of AMB Capital Limited, is the convener of the judging panel.
