Close to 220 people are currently participating in the 2017 Swakopmunder Musikwoche of which Bank Windhoek is the main sponsor.
This year, the well-known Namibian musical talent, Ailly Namupala took over as the Organisational Director of the Musikwoche, while the internationally acclaimed Conductor, Cornelia von Kerssenbrock, was appointed as Musical Director.
Von Kerssenbrock from Germany’s Musikwoche themed “Let’s Dance” chose an exciting programme for the final concerts that will take place on Friday, 15 and Saturday, 16 December 2017 in the school hall of the Namib High School in Swakopmund.
Audiences will be treated to the ”Sacrificial Dance” from Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky, the Jazz Waltz by Dmitri Shostakovich, Pomp and Circumstances March no 1 by Edward Elgar, the Valse Triste by Jean Sibelius, the “Polonaise” from Eugene Onegin by P.I. Tchaikovsky and the “Arabian Dance” from Peer Gynt by Edvard Grieg.

“We thank our sponsors for again making it possible to allow young (and not-so-young) Namibian musicians to benefit from ten days of master classes with excellent lecturers from Germany, the United States of America and South Africa. Without the most generous support of Bank Windhoek and other donors we would not have been able to it again this year,” said Christiane Berker, chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Swakopmunder Musikwoche.
The first concert of the Musikwoche saw the lecturers in action on Tuesday, 12 December 2017.

14 December 2017: Junior & Ensemble concert, 18:30 at the Hanjo Böhlke Aula (Namib High School)
15 December 2017: Final concert, 19:00 at the Hanjo Böhlke Aula (Namib High School)
16 December 2017: Final concert, 19:00 at the Hanjo Böhlke Aula (Namib High School)
17 December 2017: Church concert, 10:00 at the Lutheran Church, 9 Otavi Street, Swakopmund
