Otavi, Otjozondjupa Region – Close to 800 elderly members of the Otavi community and surrounding areas were treated to an early Christmas celebratory lunch on the 5th of December 2017. This is the fifth consecutive year that this event takes place– and it gets bigger each year.
The Christmas lunch is an annual joint initiative between the Otavi Town Council and B2Gold Namibia in celebration of the elderly citizens of Otavi. The elderly are each treated to a lunch and a Christmas grocery hamper to take home.
Welcoming the fully packed community hall, the Mayor of the town Hon. Martha Shipanga said that “it is heartwarming to see the excitement in the faces of elders and this event has come to be the most anticipated of the year for many.” She thanked B2Gold for always being on call when it comes to the wellbeing of the inhabitants of Otavi and Namibia at large.
Mark Dawe, B2Gold Namibia’s Managing Director and Country Manager, remarked: “This Christmas lunch is one of many things that we’ve committed to do for the people of Otavi in order to uplift the living standards of everyone.” Dawe said that B2Gold was committed to address issues of Livelihood development, Health, and Education as per the company’s CSR pillars.
The event was also attended by the CEO of the Namibian Chamber of Mines, heads of both Otavi Police and Military forces, and local authority councilors.
