The Annual Old Mutual Principals’ Academy Graduation ceremony was hosted at Rock Lodge, Okahandja on 15 October 2017.
The Principals’ Academy is an initiative of the African Leadership Institute, a non-profit organisation that provides various academic and non-academic training programmes since its inception in 2005, with the endorsement of the Ministry of Education Arts and Culture.
Old Mutual’s involvement dates back to 2007, when the Old Mutual Principals’ Academy was launched with the aim to furnish Government school Principals with Managerial and Leadership skills, in order to be more efficient and effective in operating their schools.
Over the past 10 years, Old Mutual, through its Foundation, invested an amount of about N$3 million towards this leadership development intervention from which over 200 principals have benefited from the transformation leadership training program.
Old Mutual is pleased with the positive impact that resulted from this investment as witnessed through the many success stories shared by former Graduates over the years.
Through this and other similar initiatives in the education focus area, such as the Annual Education Excellence Awards at national and school level where Old Mutual, through the Old Mutual Foundation, has invested N$1.8 million over the last 5 years.
During his address to the Graduates, Mr. Ndangi Katoma, and Executive: Marketing, Transformation and Customer Strategy encouraged the new transformational leaders to inspire others to follow a vision, create opportunities for people to show their flair and to take responsibility and implement new ideas. “As educators and leaders in education, your role has evolved and perhaps more so now than ever before. I therefore thank the African Leadership Institute, for partnering to bring about this transformation leadership training and providing the necessary tools for leaders who wish to be part of transforming not only our teachers, students and schools, but the Namibian nation at large, through what you do”, he said.
Given the transformational impact that this program continues to make, Old Mutual will continue supporting this programme for the 2018/2019 financial year and has set aside an amount of N$300,000 to support the Old Mutual Principals’ Academy.
This is because we believe that this investment in the transformational leadership capacity of Principals and Educators, forms the basis of a sound and functioning school system that cannot be left to Government alone to produce quality results.
For Old Mutual, our partnership in this initiative and investment in education, is part of doing great things as a Responsible Business.
