Keyplots Investments, in collaboration with the City of Windhoek (CoW), will begin managing allocated on-street parking spots by charging parking fees in Windhoek’s central business district (CBD) on Monday.
The on-street parking area encompasses Robert Mugabe Avenue, Julius K. Nyerere Street, Mandume Ndemufayo Avenue and Prof. Mburumba Kerina Street.
The CoW recently announced that rates will be charged for the Class A, which includes; John Meinert Street, Fidel Castro Street, Werner List and Lüderitz, Street.
Class B includes; Bahnhof Street, Mandume Ndemufayo, Sam Nujoma Avenue, Robert Mugabe Avenue and C/O Sinclair Street & Love Street.
Class C includes; Sam Nujoma Avenue, Lazarett Street, Mandume Ndemufayo, Robert Mugabe Avenue, the entire Independence Avenue all Grimm Street, C/O Dr Augustino Road and Rehobother Road.
These tariffs will apply in these areas from 06h00 to 18h00 on Mondays through Fridays, and from 06h00 to 14h00 on Saturdays.
Parking will be regulated in accordance with the Municipal Council of Windhoek’s Parking Meter Regulation, and parking rates will be applied as promulgated.
Keyplots Investments Operations Manager, David Angula, told Nampa on Monday that all parking areas under their management will be clearly identifiable by sign boards, indicating the respective parking rates and payment procedures (pay and display process).
‘Furthermore, all Keyplots Investments parking marshals managing the parking areas will be identifiable by branded uniforms and name badges. We appreciate the public’s support in our efforts to improve parking availability within the CBD,’’ he said.
He said that a pay and display machine is a type of ticket machine used for regulating parking in urban areas or in car parks.
It relies on a customer purchasing a ticket from a machine (operated by the Keyplots Investments parking marshal) and displaying the parking ticket on the dashboard, windscreen or passenger window of the vehicle, he said.
Details included on a printed ticket are generally the location and operator of the machine, expiry time, and fee paid and time entered.
Keyplots Investments was appointed by the Windhoek Municipality to manage and maintain specific parking areas within Windhoek’s central business district for the next five years.
