President Hage Geingob, who attended and co-chaired the inaugural session of the Namibia-Botswana bi-national Commission (BNC), said the governments of the two countries are planning to agree to abolish the use of passports for travel between the two nations.
Citizens of the two countries will use identity cards once the agreement is implemented.
This was contained in a communique issued by the two countries at the just ended BNC held at Gaborone, Botswana on Friday.
The BNC, which started on 05 September and ended on 09 September 2022, was aimed at renewing and strengthening bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation.
The meeting discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest under four Thematic Committees namely; Politics and Diplomacy; Economic Cluster; Social Cluster; as well as Defence and Security matters.
According to the communique, seven bilateral Instruments of agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed in areas such as trade, investment and industrial development, among others.
Meanwhile, Botswana’s President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, re-affirmed Botswana’s commitment to relations between the two countries.
The two Presidents agreed on an implementation plan with strict adherence to set time frames in the execution of BNC commitments and decisions to benefit the people of both countries.
