Born in exile in Zambia and raised as a child in Angola, Tulonga Wahengo’s musical influences began in refugee camps through revolutionary songs, traditional Congolese rumba and kizomba.
His desire to become a musician led him to Windhoek where he took light guitar lessons at the College of the Arts. Soon, with the Mighty Dreads he started playing reggae as a rhythmic guitarist and back vocal.
After a successful start as one of the first Namibian CDs on the market and a tour in Namibia, Tulonga left the band and created Formula Band which launched two albums and performed on all major Namibian musical platforms as well as in SADC at the Awesome Festival (South Africa, Durban) and the HIFA (Zimbabwe, Harare). Their style of music was focusing on Shambo including the use of O’Kambulumbumbwa instrument which was first performed live plugged in 2015.
Today, Tulonga Wahengo wishes to continue his exploration of Reggae Shambo fusion while maintaining traditional rhythms and melodies as the main dynamics.
