The Erongo police are investigating the alleged murder of 53-year-old Roland Antonius Wilhelmus, who was reportedly shot in front of his rented house in Ocean View, Swakopmund on Monday.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Erongo Community Policing Commander, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, in a crime report on Tuesday indicated that the incident occurred around 16h00.
It is suspected that Wilhelmus was shot on the left lower part of his eye and the bullet exited through the back of his head, while another shot left a bullet stuck in the right lower part of his waist.
“It is alleged that the deceased person called his girlfriend, who was at home, to open the small gate of their rented home for him. He then parked the car along the side wall on the outside of the house and started washing his car. After a few minutes, while the girlfriend was seated at home, she heard a strange sound from outside their home,” Shapumba noted.
He added that about 15 minutes later, an unknown male person who was reportedly passing by the couple’s house knocked on their door and alerted the woman of the man’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood outside.
Preliminary police investigations led to the discovery of an undetermined amount of cocaine, cash amounting to N.dollars 2 050 and three cellphones in a bag inside the car of the deceased Holland national.
The police also found 120 boxes containing 9mm live rounds in a safe without a firearm and a firearm licence.
According to Shapumba, available evidence on the possible suspects is inconclusive and police are pursuing the matter.
